Amanda Anderson

Over the last four years, I’ve worked hard at perfecting and improving my art techniques, my self-care routine, and how to use art to improve my mental health. Here's a quick backstory. In 2016 I was admitted on a suicide watch because I was in the depths of a nasty postpartum depression. While I was admitted, I found a natural love and talent for art. That was the first time I realized I could use art to help me heal.

Since then, I've never stopped painting and drawing. In August 2020, I became a Therapeutic Art Life Coach and I'm currently completing my Bachelors degree in Fine Art Education, with the plan to get my masters in Art Therapy to become a licensed art therapist.

Amanda Trought

Amanda a Mixed Media Artist uses a variety of materials – paint, clay, fabric, stitch, book making, natural and recycled fibers creating art telling stories using colour, texture and layers. She explores the use of art and creativity on health & mental well-being including its use with dementia & caring. She has spoken at various conferences and seminars on benefits of creative activities on health in London, Barbados and Montserrat.

Finding so much success in her own life, Amber began Women Create Weekly in 2018, a blog and online membership to help women find themselves again through watercolor painting. She enjoys running both businesses and finding life balance on a daily basis.

Christina Miles

My name is Christina. I have been dabbling in the art field since I was quite young. My first love has always been photography and will always be my first love. Married to the same awesome sailor (hence, me being the mermaid) since 1982! We have 2 wonderful young men, both living their own adventures. I learned a lot of stuff from my dad, mainly that no matter if something was broke..we always figured a way to fix it. I was like a second son. Always in the garage working on the jeep. I even learned how to paint it, twice! I did some pin striping and painted the logo on it.. It was a race jeep, but was also street legal (I think). I painted my first car mostly by myself and it was super fun! Guess you can say I got a taste for making a huge mess when I was young!

Today, I consider myself a mixed media artist. I strongly believe we can have more than one love of the arts. My style is forever changing, but for the best, I think.

Consie finds that art journaling is the most freeing way to express herself. She wants us all to know that we can find freedom, playfulness, and joy by slapping down some paint, gluing magazine pages to a piece of paper, adding doodling & marks, finding a quote that screams...'THIS IS HOW I FEEL TODAY!"...and calling it good enough.

Jess Malli Mercier

I am a long time creative soul, a mixed media artist, as well as a graphic designer. My goal is to inspire others to be free in their creative process. When creating an art journal, the end result isn't the most important part, it is the time that we take to make art, and the telling of our stories that should take precedent. It is a special place to express emotions, fears, joys, and things that we love. It is an opportunity to document your life, a safe haven for your inner thoughts and feelings, and the time that we take to free ourselves in the creation process can be very powerful. This form of art is open to so much experimentation and passion. It is a brilliant exercise for people and artists trying to find their style, and are just beginning or are unsure of their level of talent. Art journaling has been such an important part of my life as a woman and as an artist simultaneously, and I love to share things that I have learned in my own journey through this medium.

Nikol Wikman

My name is Nikol Wikman I live in Victoria, BC Canada with my husband and two children. I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. I loved art class in school and spent hours upon hours sketching. As I grew up I experimented with different creative avenues. I tried sewing, sculpting, took a stained glass course, beaded, made jewelry. Anything to feed the creative yearning in my soul. In my 20's I decided to try painting again (which I hadn't done since high school). I painted simple pieces for my apartment and loved it! It was so fun to grab a canvas, throw some paint on it and have my own unique piece of art! For a few years I painted here and there but nothing too serious. After my son was born I was struggling a little bit, lonely as a new mom. I decided to make a point of painting (almost) daily. It was one of the best decisions I ever made! In the studio(aka my dining room) I felt like I found myself again! I loved it so much I couldn't stop. The process of playing with pure liquid colour does something to my heart that nothing else does. I never get bored of it. When I paint I feel joyful and free!

Living here in Cornwall I am surrounded by amazing scenery and the magic of the ocean and Cornish history is filled with mystery and legends of mermaids and smugglers-not to mention tales of King Arthur! All of this feeds my soul with imagination! I'm inspired by fantasy and whimsy and I'm fascinated by expressive faces and story art. My work is often accompanied by tales or poems.
